Week of May 18th

'Nother one of those weeks -- only some of it shows in pics.

Am getting the hip roof situation on the west side under control.  The angles bust my head.

Meanwhile Sebastian worked on getting the basement cleaned up of the caked mud that had settled there throughout the months of unroofed work.   It's now ready to take my woodworking equipment -- which I hope to move in this week.

As you can see, it will still double as a gym.

Week of May 11

The wild Irises continue to pop up everywhere,  making our little paradise particularly enchanting at this time of year.

Well  -- I wanted to dive in,  but the point was to see it this way:

This was a week of many different tasks,  only some of which show up in pics.  One nice one is the final piece of metal siding -- the window seat.   It's the only ground floor part of the house that won't get Lime stucco.

I installed the kitchen door and also started framing the hip roofs that form little covered areas at the front and kitchen door.  Real head buster because of all the angles and critical levels that have to be matched,  but I think I'm figuring it out.

I jumped off a ladder onto this concrete slab-- averting a fall -- but landed stiff kneed.  Lots of pain.... am hoping its a passing thing,  but the intensity of it is a little worrisome. I also installed some temporary doors at the front and the basement door openings -- since I haven't built these yet.  THese are from the local recycling center.  Nice color clash,  but they do the trick and the house can now actually be closed up entirely.

 WIsh me healing luck!

Week of May 3 -- Mixed Bag

Hard to remember today,  in the glorious weekend weather we've had,  but the start of the week was a truly miserable combination:  pressure to get the high work done so that we could get the scaffolding taken down and returned  combined with miserable driving rain.    At the end of tuesday the scaffolding was indeed piled at the side of the driveway and Sebastian and I were sopped and mud covered....

Lots of little things this week.  Highlights are

No more scaffolding on the east:

Basement windows and some window sills in:

LIme plaster for exterior work mixed:

Green shoots -- Belated post on week of April 27

Here on the hill we truly ARE having green shoots.  The eight fruit trees that we planted in February are all budding.   And this past weekend we fenced and planted our vegetable garden.

Then there the wild irises that spring up all over our land.  They were a delightful surprise the first year that we were visiting this place with high hopes of settling here.

Construction-wise.... I can barely remember.   THe week was largely dedicated to doing anything that required the scaffolding,  as I really didn't want to be renting it for another week.  That meant finishing all the little trim details that are going to be hell to reach up there on a ladder in the future.

Here you can see some of what I mean -- the cedar boards that are filling in under the eave, or gable or soffit.... roofing terms confuse me.

Here's what we hope will be the last shot with this network covering our winking house facade...
